Possible election for alcohol sales in Wolfe City

By Scott Harvey

Wolfe City – Two petitions for alcohol sales have been submitted by Wolfe City residents, and Hunt County Commissioners will decide Monday whether to place the items on the November 3 ballot.

The petitions are for the legal sale of beer and wine for off-premise consumption only, and for the legal sale of mixed beverages in restaurants by food and beverage certificate holders. 128 and 121 signatures were received for each petition, respectively. 119 were required for each.

Petitions recently submitted by Quinlan residents have been approved for November ballot items. In May several area cities, including Paris, Emory and Wills Point approved the sale of alcohol in local stores.

Commissioners will also Monday discuss the Hunt County tax rate for the 2009-10 fiscal year. The current rate sits at $.50 per $100 valuation. The 2007-08 tax rate was $.55/$100.

Monday's meeting begins at 10 a.m. in the Auxiliary Courtroom, located at 2700 Johnson in Greenville.
