Lengthy sentence in Campbell burglary

By Brad Kellar

Campbell – A lengthy prison sentence is handed down in a Campbell burglary.

44-year-old Douglas Kevin Smith, of Dallas, was sentenced to 60 years in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice-Institutional Division for a conviction on a charge of burglary of a habitation with intent to commit theft.

Smith normally would have been facing no more than 20 years in prison, but due to his criminal history, he received a harsher sentence.

Smith was alleged to have stolen a shotgun, rifle, $530 in cash and 300 pounds of steaks from the home in March, 2006. He was arrested the next day by Garland Police after pawning one of the firearms stolen.
