Dallas County reports first swine flu death

By Associated Press

Dallas – Officials say a 52-year-old woman is the first person from Dallas County to die of swine flu.

The announcement Thursday came during a news conference to address the county's plan for flu season. Officials said the woman had underlying health issues when she died last Friday. They had no other details.

The Dallas Morning News reported that the county had 431 confirmed cases of swine flu as of Aug. 8. However, the county health department stopped accepting samples of potential cases in May.

The first swine flu death in the U.S. came in Texas. The virus has killed more than 500 people in the U.S. and its territories.
