Commerce – The City of Commerce is making progress with its Highway 11 utility relocation project, as mandated by the Texas Department of Transportation.
Council Tuesday night voted to proceed with the acquisition of easements along the highway.
There were five total easements to obtain before work could begin in those areas, with all but one now accounted for. The city does need to go to eminent domain on one of the easements. The district judge will need to appoint a three member panel to work out an agreement.
The more than $1 million project to move the lines out of state right-of-way is a mandate by TxDot, who this fall will begin rebuilding the intersection of SH 11 and Loop 178.
