Possible motive revealed in chase and shooting

By Brad Kellar

Greenville – A possible motive is revealed in Saturday chase through Greenville that ended with the shooting death of Edward Markeist Wheaton.

Wheaton's estranged wife, who works at Schlotzsky's Deli at Crossroads Mall, believes he may have been in town to kill her.

Wheaton was initially cornered in the mall's parking lot by law enforcement. He died at the scene of a multi-vehicle crash near the intersection of Wesley and Stanford Streets where officers reportedly fired on Wheaton's vehicle.

Although they had not spoken to one another in a month, LaSharon Wheaton said her ex would call and threaten her; and last Friday had been contacting her relatives asking where she could be found.
