By Brad Kellar

Hunt County – A Rains County man has been found guilty of aggravated assault in connection to a shooting in Merit.

James Earl Lemons of Point was found guilty following a three day trial. Lemons was indicted for allegedly using a shotgun to shoot the husband of his girlfriend.

Darryl Cox was shot in the stomach in September, 2008 at his residence along Farm-To-Market 1569.

The jury had found Lemons guilty of the charge Wednesday afternoon and the same panel Thursday returned a sentence of 17 years in prison and also fined Lemons $5,000.
