Jury not expected to hear Wheaton's case Friday

By Brad Kellar

Greenville – A Hunt County Grand Jury is not expected this week to hear the case of a Dallas man shot and killed following a chase through Greenville.

Family members of Edward Markeist Wheaton conducted a vigil in his honor Saturday at the scene of the multi-vehicle crash in the 4400 block of Wesley Street. Wheaton died Feb. 20.

It is believed the case won't be review by the Grant Jury until May or June, as it is still under investigation. Officers fired on Wheaton's pickup after he reportedly used the truck to ram a DPS patrol unit and at least one other vehicle.

Approximately two dozen shots were fired at the scene of the crash. An investigation would find Wheaton was unarmed at the time of the shooting.
