Economic development project closer to taking shape

By Brad Kellar

Greenville – A proposed clean energy electric generating plant could cost more than $100 million to build, but could provide the city and Hunt County with tens of millions of dollars in future revenue.

A final decision has not been made on building the plant in Greenville, but steps are being taken in an effort to get construction started within the next few months.

The Greenville City Council intends next week to begin the process of granting Lufkin-based Greenville Energy a franchise for operating the plant.
