Ector – Students at a Fannin County school are sent home after a teacher's aide is tested for meningitis at a nearby hospital.

All Thursday classes at Ector Elementary School were closed after the aide got sick on Wednesday.

Superintendent Gary Bonhannon tells KXII-TV that there was concern the instructor may have bacterial meningitis, a very contagious type of the infection.

The illness is usually only spread to those in close contact with the infected individual. Symptoms include fever, headache, stiff neck and skin rashes. Test results should take three to five days.

Ector ISD officials had planned to sterilize the elementary school Thursday, and said parents could opt to keep their children at home Friday.
