Aggravated assault suspect accepts plea deal

By Brad Kellar

Greenville – A Campbell resident has pleaded guilty and is sentenced for striking a male victim in 2009.

23-year-old Joe Ray Cumpian II entered the plea Tuesday to one count of aggravated assault causing serious bodily injury.

Under a plea bargain, he was placed on eight years of deferred adjudication probation, fined $1,000 and ordered to complete 250 hours of community service.

Cumpian reportedly broke the jaw of a Commerce man in June 2009 after hitting him with his fist or an unknown object.
