Large crowd anticipated for naming ceremony

By Scott Harvey

Greenville – Tour guides are sought as the City of Greenville prepares to welcome an estimated 5,000 visitors to town for the White Buffalo Naming Ceremony on June 29.

The rare, white buffalo, which was recently born just outside of the city, is considered sacred by the Sioux.

To enhance the visitor experience and to alleviate congestion at the Lakota Buffalo Ranch, the Greenville Chamber of Commerce/ Convention and Visitors Bureau will run buses to and from the ranch and the Greenville Farmer's Market on Wednesday June 29 and Saturday July 2. In a statement issued Tuesday, the Chamber would like to especially welcome present and former members of the Greenville High School Native American Club to participate.

A training session is set for 3 pm. Friday at the Greenville Chamber office at 2313 Stonewall Street. A suggested script and hand-out materials will be provided to all tour guides. More information is available at 903-455-1510.
