Fire crews rescue woman from burning structure

Commerce – Foul play is suspected in a Thursday morning fire north of Commerce in which a 47-year-old woman nearly lost her life.
"Two Commerce Firefighters made entry, found her on the floor and were able to remove her," said Richard Hill, Hunt County fire marshal/director of Homeland Security. "The fire was pretty well fully engulfed at that time they did a great job of getting the victim out."
The woman has been taken to Parkland Hospital in Dallas where her condition was not immediately known. But according to Hill, her injuries were not life threatening. The victim's husband was able to escape on his own.
The blaze at 6849 State Highway 50 ignited at approximately 9 a.m. Thursday and was contained by early Thursday afternoon. Hill says that information provided by witnesses indicates the fire is suspicious and an investigation is underway.
"It was a large fire; really really hard to put out. The heat was extreme for the firefighters. I was quite concerned with the situation with the temperatures this morning," Hill said.
Fire crews from Campbell and Ladonia assisted in battling the blaze on a day where temperatures reached close to 100 degrees.
