Bonham – Veterans at Bonham's Community Living Center have formed an honor guard program that renders a final salute and tribute to honor their comrades who pass away there.
The 136-bed facility is part of the 78-acre Sam Rayburn Memorial Veterans Center and member of VA North Texas Health Care System.
The group recently performed a full-dress rehearsal to be sure the final honor would be appropriate for America's heroes. The ceremony includes playing of TAPS, salutes from the group, and formal folding of the flag.
The U.S. is quickly losing World War II and Korean War heroes who make up a large portion of the patient population at the CLC in Bonham.
A release by the center says that though these former service men and women may lose touch with those they served with, the feeling of camaraderie with their fellow Veterans only grows stronger.
