Deadly plane wreck in Arkansas with local ties

STILLWATER, Okla. -  The Oklahoma State Women’s Basketball Assistant Coach who was killed along with her head coach after a plane crash Thursday night in Arkansas was a graduate of A&M-Commerce.

Miranda Serna was riding in the plane with Head Coach Kurt Budke on a recruiting trip when the single-engine Piper went down about 45 miles west of Little Rock.

The pilots, former Oklahoma State Sen. Olin Branstetter and his wife, Paula Branstetter, also died in the crash.

According to OSU’s website, Serna earned a bachelor's degree in mathematics at A&M-Commerce in 1998. She’s a native of New Mexico. Serna was in her seventh season as an assistant coach with the school.
