Afternoon crash kills two, injures four

Lucia Oerter

An afternoon car crash has killed two people in Fannin County and sent four to the hospital.

KXII-TV reports that at about 3:30 pm yesterday afternoon, Sharon Williams of Whitewright was driving south on Hwy 121, when she crossed into the opposing lane, colliding head on with Johny Philips of Allen.

Two passengers in Philip’s vehicle, 45-year-old Reena Daniel and 14-year-old Daniel Philips both died at the scene. Two children who were also in the vehicle were taken to Children’s Hospital in Dallas. Williams is listed in serious condition at Plano Medical Center. And Philips was taken to Parkland with minor injuries.

No information was given on whether alcohol was involved.

Daniel was born and raised in Commerce, TX, and has been a life-long listener of 88.9 KETR. After listening to ‘The Art of Sound’ with Mark Chapman as a child, he enjoyed the thought of being able to broadcast across NE Texas. He is now a Radio/Television student at Texas A&M University-Commerce and hopes to continue his work in radio after he graduates. He has been heard in the past as the host of ‘All Things Considered’, ‘Movie Picks with Alice Reese’ and ‘The Morning Bell’.
