North Texas Toll Violators May Want to Reconsider

NTTA

DALLAS - Would the public embarrassment of more than $100,000 in total tolls and fees or fear of criminal action prompt you to pay up? That’s the hope of the North Texas Tollway Authority.

The company released the report this week, which shows toll violators with more than 100 unpaid toll transactions that have aged through the collections phase of the billing process since January 1, 2010. The 751 page document shows a range of violators who owe more than $2,000 to nearly $180,000.

The top culprit, as of the July 9 report, is Amber Young of Dallas, who owes $179,596.43. The report shows Young has failed to pay more than 8,300 toll charges.

NTTA stated on its website:

“To avoid enforcement action, further charges and other consequences, customers are encouraged to contact NTTA Customer Service at (972) 818-NTTA (6882) to discuss payment options, receive more information about charges due, or to be removed from the list if their account is no longer delinquent.”

While a majority of the top violators are from Dallas and the surrounding suburbs, a Greenville woman made the top 20 on the list that you don’t want to be on. Patricia Smith owes more than $102,000. That’s nearly 4,000 toll charges that have gone unpaid.

A quick scan of the NTTA list also found names of a handful of other violators from Greenville, plus some residing in Bonham, Honey Grove, Lone Oak, Princeton, Paris, Quinlan, Royse City, Sulphur Springs and Terrell.
