AMBER Alert Awareness Day announced

Governor Rick Perry declares Jan. 13, 2015 as AMBER Alert Awareness Day.

Governor Rick Perry has signed in official recognition the proclamation for the date January 13, 2015 to declare AMBER Alert Awareness Day.

On January 13, 1996, nine-year old Amber Hagerman was abducted while riding her bicycle in Arlington, Texas. According to reports her kidnapping and brutal murder remains unsolved to this day. This incident prompted citizens to reach out to local radio stations to broadcast child abduction information.

“I was proud to sign legislation establishing the Texas AMBER Alert Network in 2002, and since its inception, 129 Texas children have been safely recovered through 124 Texas Department of Public Safety activations,” stated Governor Rick Perry. “The AMBER Alert Network has also led to the recovery of more than 720 children across the country.”

He encourages citizens to immediately contact 911 if witness to suspicious activity.
