North Lamar ISD Board To Meet Wednesday To Plot New Course

In Paris, the North Lamar Independent School District Board of Trustees will meet tomorrow to decide how to address the resignation of their board president.

audio transcript

Stephen “Red” Holmes is acting president of the North Lamar ISD board.  Former board president Paul Drake turned in his resignation last week. The school district faces financial challenges following the defeat of a $44.9 million bond proposal in elections on May 9. Much of the funds would have gone to upgrades of the school’s facilities, which have been a point of concern for years. In 2016, a $56 million bond measure was also rejected by Paris voters. The district has negotiated a long-term lease of 26 temporary buildings from the Tyler public schools. The move was made in order to handle anticipated classroom space shortages in the coming school year. The North Lamar ISD Board of Trustees has six months to fill the president’s position, either through a special election or by appointment. The board is scheduled to meet at 7:30 on Wednesday morning.
