After over three years of work and documentation the Giles Cemetery will be receiving a Texas Historical Cemetery Marker. Sunday, June 25 at 2 p.m. will be the dedication held to unveil the marker, which has been recorded as a Texas Historic Preservation Cemetery by Texas Historical Commission in Austin.

As reported by Zelda Fisher, Ed Pickard, President of the organization, announced that Delta County’s State Representative Larry Phillips of Sherman will be the guest speaker for the occasion.

It is also noted that Giles Cemetery’s first burial was in 1887 and the latest burial was 2005. The Cemetery contains 203 graves. Veterans of several wars are buried at the Giles Cemetery located just off FM 128 in Ben Franklin, Texas.

Everyone is invited as another part of the county’s history unfolds.
