Slideshow: Pecan Gap’s Annual Pecan Fest Festivities

They are starting to fall from the trees. They are perfect for pies or just for snacking. That’s right. Ringing in fall in Northeast Texas is the pecan season. With that Pecan Gap, Texas hosted their annual Pecan Fest, near the heart of Delta County.

Local citizens and visitors alike enjoyed many events on Saturday, Oct. 14. According to Cooper Review community writer Nelda Campbell, the Pecan Fest is the “Best low-tech festival in Texas.”

All the activities were planned by Ed and Karen Pickard and were free. The parade downtown Pecan Gap, Texas was led by the Pecan Gap Volunteer Fire Department.

The famous Curtis Miller brisket BBQ meal was served along with “Dewey” dogs.

The Pecan Gap Ladies Club sold whole pies, slices of pie, canned goods, souvenirs, and crafts.

Fun for children included: bounce house, hay park, hay toss for kids and adults, stick horse race, horseshoe toss, lawn mower race, pecan toss, egg toss, bubble gum and rooster crow contest, and the most popular “Story Telling.”

Proceeds from the prepared food went back to the upkeep of the Pecan Gap Community Center.
