It's Seeds and Neighborliness Aplenty in Bonham

Vickie Stanley converted an old-school card catalog into a neighborly seed catalog at the Bonham Public Library

Spring means gardening here in Northeast Texas. In Bonham, it also means getting together to trade seeds, ideas and recipes with fellow gardeners. Every second and fourth Thursday, members of the Neighborhood Seed Exchange program meet at Bonham Public Library to discuss gardening tips for growing vegetables, herbs, and flowers.

Library Technician Vickie Stanley runs the Seed Exchange program, which features a seed catalog that replaced the old card catalog. For free, she says, anyone can come in and get some seeds, or leave some seeds.

Stanley says the group is looking to include seedlings and plants into the twice-monthly gatherings. This fall, if all goes well, she says – there might even be a produce exchange.
