April 1 Evening Newscast: Hunt County Sheriff's Office reports child injured in accidental shooting
Officials say the child was airlifted to Dallas with non-life-threatening injuries.
- In Hunt County, the Sheriff’s Office is investigating a reported accidental shooting of a child that happened yesterday. A statement from the agency said the incident happened around 8 p.m. Thursday, just north of the Greenville city limits, in the 3800 block of FM 118. Sheriff’s deputies reported a child who had been shot in the leg and was helicoptered to Children’s Medical Center in Dallas with non-life-threatening injuries. No further details about the incident were released and an investigation is ongoing.
- In Greenville, the Hunt County Courthouse grounds will feature blue pinwheels this month to promote Child Abuse Awareness and Prevention Month, which is April. Representatives of the Hunt County Children’s Advocacy Center (CAC) and Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) participated in a ceremony at the courthouse earlier today to usher in the observation. Today is Go Blue Day in Texas, when Texans are asked to wear blue to support efforts to end child abuse. for Hunt County are scheduled to meet at noon Friday for a ceremony to observe the official start of the event. Last year more than 68 thousand reported victims of child abuse were confirmed in Texas. The Greenville Herald Banner reports that in 2021, Hunt County’s Child Protective Services office conducted 724 investigations of child abuse and/or neglect.
