Hunt County officials are expected to decide this morning whether to implement the county's first burn ban in almost three years.

  • As many people in Northeast Texas return to work after the Independence Day weekend, hot and dry conditions are of concern region-wide. The Texas A&M Forest service has rated fire danger across our region as high to very high. The area around Commerce, including northeastern Hunt County and parts of western Delta and Hopkins counties is identified as the driest in the region. The Hunt County Commissioners Court is scheduled to meet in Greenville this morning to decide whether to implement a burn ban for the county. It’s been almost three years since outdoor burning was last banned in Hunt County. Currently, around the region, Dallas, Kaufman, Van Zandt, and Wood counties are among those that already have burn bans in place.
  • Texas A&M University-Commerce will host a COVID-19 vaccination clinic on Wednesday at the Field House. Adult and child vaccines will be available. For people 12 years of age and older, the standard Pfizer and Moderna vaccines will be offered. For children ages 5 to 11, the pediatric Pfizer vaccine will be available. And for small children aged 6 months to 5 years, the infant and toddler Moderna vaccine will be offered. No appointment is necessary and all vaccines will be offered on a first-come, first served basis. You’re asked to bring your previous COVID-19 vaccination card, or a picture of it, if you have one. The clinic will be offered from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday, at the Field House. The Field House is the large, quonset-hut-style building that hosts the university’s basketball games.
