2018 Frisco Bowl: Ohio Victorious In Dominant Fashion

The Ohio Bobcat defense put the clamps on a very talented San Diego State offense as they shutout the Aztecs 27-0 in the DXL Frisco Bowl on Wednesday night. San Diego State was held to only 287 total yards, also fumbling the ball on a crucial drive and throwing an interception in the end zone.

Ohio senior linebacker Evan Croutch, the defensive MVP, talked about how proud he was of himself and his fellow defensive players for pitching a shutout.

“It’s a great feeling,” Croutch said. “We’ve been preparing for what seems like a long time now for this game and to shut out a great team like San Diego State feels great. We pride ourselves on stopping the run for whatever game we go into, and we did that tonight and it really helped us out.”

Croutch recorded 11 tackles including 1.5 sacks and 2.5 tackles for loss. Ohio University did not allow an opponent to score a touchdown in back-to-back bowl games, a first in program history.

Ohio head coach Frank Solich also spoke about how proud he was of his team and how that affects them going into the off season.

“I think it’s great momentum. Obviously there’s always a great momentum built for the offseason. But obviously this game, San Diego State, very tough football team. They got the ball right out and tried to beat you up a little bit, and if you’re not careful pretty soon you’re behind.”

The Bobcats finished 9-4 on the season and pitched their first shutout since November of 2015. San Diego State finishes the year at 7-6 and will look to regroup going into the off season after losing a very talented senior class.
