AG, Rangers to Seize 600 Absentee Ballots in Kaufman County

The Texas Attorney General’s Office and The Texas Rangers are expected to seize nearly 600 mail-in ballots in Kaufman County on Wednesday.

A week ago, State Rep. Lance Gooden filed a suit in the 86th District Court alleging voter fraud in hundreds of absentee Republican ballots from the March 6 primary and the May 7 Terrell ISD board elections.

On Monday, District Court Judge Casey Blair signed the order to send the ballots in question to Ken Paxton’s office and to the Texas Rangers.

While Gooden says he wants to ensure the sanctity of the ballot box, critics have chided him for the timing of the lawsuit. Gooden faces Bunni Pounds in the Republican Runoff in Texas’ 5th Congressional District. That’s the district being vacated by US. Rep. Jeb Hensarling this year.

Gooden's lawsuit is not expected to affect Tuesday's primary runoff elections.
