BONHAM - The Bonham ISD Board has announced that the superintendent of the Troup ISD, south of Tyler, has been named the lone finalist for the superintendent’s role.

Dr. Marvin Beaty has served as the top official at Troup, with an enrollment of roughly 1,100, for the past eight years.

In a release issued Tuesday, Bonham ISD Board President Lance Davis stated, "Dr. Beaty brings a proven track record of success to our school system. He has served effectively in two other superintendencies and is highly regarded by board and community members in the school systems he has served. Dr. Beaty has successfully served all students and demonstrated effectiveness in working with all stakeholders."

Dr. Beaty is also an adjunct professor of graduate research for Louisiana College in Pineville, Louisiana. Prior to his time in Troup, he was superintendent of schools in the Hermleigh Independent School District.

When contacted regarding the position, Beaty stated, "it is a great honor to have been selected as superintendent of schools by the Bonham ISD' Board. My family and I are very excited about the challenge and opportunity. Having previously spent time in North Central Texas, Southeast Texas, West Texas and East Texas, we are delighted to be joining a great team of educators and become members of what is clearly a wonderful community."

Beaty is married to Kelly and they have two sons, Taylor, 20, a student at Texas A&M University, and Jacob, 17, a high school senior.

Contract terms for Dr. Beaty will be set over the next 21 days, which is the required waiting period established by state law.

Beaty replaces Sonny Cruse, who announced last month he is stepping down after five years with the district to accept the deputy superintendent’s position with Huntsville ISD.

A reception to recognize Cruse is planned for Monday in the Board Room of the Bailey Inglish Administration Center at 1005 Chestnut Street from 5-6 p.m.
