Busken: Patience, assistance needed with investigations

With the Greenville Police Department currently involved in multiple homicide investigations, Police Chief Dan Busken is asking the public for understanding and cooperation.

“These types of investigations are very labor intensive for us,” Busken said. “It is definitely a challenge for us.”

There have been at least four homicides in Greenville during the past four weeks, while multiple individuals have been injured during other offenses.

Busken said there does not appear to be a direct link between the crimes, other than the two stabbing deaths and several injuries reported during the early Saturday morning incident at a local skating rink.

“The only things these incidents have in common are they involved drugs, violence or alcohol. That is one side of the coin,” Busken said. “The other side is that you have families grieving for the losses of their loved ones.”

Busken said the department remains actively involved in all of the investigations, but could use some help.

“We are asking for the assistance and patience of the community,” he explained, especially involving the investigation of the incident at Skate Safari, which resulted in the deaths of Darius Diondre Hubbard and Ljorian Marquise Harris of Greenville, and the wounding of seven other people.

A warrant has been issued for the arrest of Heriberto Borrego of Greenville, on one count of murder in connection with the Harris’ death.

Busken said others who were at a private party inside the skating rink that night may have vital information about the crime in their possession.
