Canton's Chandler Eiland

A local quarterback has bee named the 2013 Built Ford Tough Texas High School Football Player of the Week Award for Week 8 for Class 3A Football.

Chandler Eiland, junior quarterback for the Canton Eagles, earned the honor after an impressive performance in Canton’s 49-35 victory over the Mineola Yellowjackets. Eiland completed 17 of his 23 pass attempts for 440 yards and four touchdowns. He also stung the Yellow Jackets on the ground, rushing 13 times for 75 yards and another three scores.

Eiland has proved to be an integral part of Canton’s roster, as the Eagles lost each of their first three games, which Eiland missed due to a mononucleosis infection. Since his return, the Eagles have won three of four and Eiland has thrown for 1,422 yards on 101-149 throwing for 15 touchdowns.

Eiland excels just as much off the field. He has a 4.0 GPA and is a member of the Student Leadership Group, a district-wide organization. Eiland is also an active member of the Eagle Buddies, a group that reads to children every week.
