The latest report from the Centers for Disease Controlshow cases of influenza spiking in Texas.
The number of specimens testing positive for influenza in state hospitals as of Dec. 16 was just above 27 percent. Six hundred fifty-eight specimens tested positive. The CDC calls the prevalence of influenza in Texas widespread. In Northeast Texas, cases of Influenza A have been reported in Collin and Rockwall counties. Hunt, Lamar, and Fannin Counties have reported flu-like illnesses — respiratory viruses, especially respiratory syncytial virus — but not yet cases of actual flu.
The CDC says no influenza-associated pediatric deaths have been reported, but five influenza-associated outbreaks were.
