Centennial Celebration Marked on Celebration Plaza

Bankhead Highway Centennial Celebration (1916-2016) traveled through and stopped at Celebration Plaza in Sulphur Springs last Thursday, featuring cars from the year 1919 through 1933.

The vintage automobiles stopped on the Plaza to be showcased for Hopkins County as they parked near the historic Hopkins County Courthouse. They were officially welcomed by City of Sulphur Springs Mayor Kayla Price-Mitchell and City Councilman John Sellers, community historian.

The Bankhead Highway Centennial Celebration left Texarkana, Texas and ended in Odessa, Texas the following Sunday evening. They had stopped in neighboring East Texas communities such as Mount Pleasant, Mount Vernon and Saltillo before arriving in Sulphur Springs and traveling to Cumby for a dinner that Thursday. Before departing they marked the event with a group driver photo.
