In Commerce, police continue to investigate a non-fatal shooting incident that happened on Monday, Sept. 17. The shooting occurred near the Regency Square Apartments, near the intersection of Washington Street and Maple Street.

No new information was released on Tuesday. On Monday, officials said that a male victim of unspecified age was taken to Hunt Regional Emergency Medical Center in Commerce with non-life-threatening injuries. Police said they found shell casings in the 2200 block of Washington Street.

Gun violence has happened before in the neighborhood, which is located two blocks east of the Texas A&M University-Commerce campus. In January 2015, there was a fatal shooting at the Lamplight Lodge Apartments, on Moore Street, also near the intersection with Washington Street. That’s about one block north of the non-fatal shooting that happened on Monday.
