The Cooper Independent School Board of Trustees agreed to keep the pay scale for teachers competitive in light of House Bill 2543 which could classroom teachers from under the protected minimum pay scale currently set at $2,732 per month by the state if it passes. The minimum pay at Cooper ISD will be $33,000 for a first year teacher for the upcoming 2015-16 school year.

“Teachers are worth a great deal in our book – more than any dollar figure,” said Cooper ISD Superintendent Denicia Hohenberger.

The Board hired Beth Preas for the Head Start and Pre-K teacher.

Delta County Judge Jason Murray swore in incumbent Board members Jeff Phifer, Darren Braddy and newly elected Mandy Freeman. Thomas Darden was nominated to serve as President of the Board again along with other officers Vice President Blake Randle and Secretary Kregg Slakey. It was agreed to keep the time at 6 p.m. and day (third Monday of month) the same for the upcoming year. However the next meeting will be held on Monday, June 22 due to training conflicts.
