The Cooper Volunteer Fire Department will be hosting a 100th Year Anniversary Open House on Saturday, Sept. 13 from 2 to 6 p.m. The department has been serving the City of Cooper and Delta County since 1914.
“We will be celebrating the 100th year anniversary of the fire department,” said Cooper Volunteer Fire Department Chief Leland Howard on the ‘come and go’ event. “We hope you [the public] will join us in helping celebrate this historical event.”
There will be refreshments served, and guests are welcomed to tour the station.
“We are very fortunate to have such a good fire department with very dedicated volunteers,” said City of Cooper Mayor Scotty Stegall.
“We will have our fire apparatus on display as well as a roll call list with over 170 names of all those who have served for the department,” said Chief Howard. The department has also compiled a special video which highlights the history of the local fire department complete with photos and newspaper reports.
The fire trucks will be available for photos, and the department will be selling commemorative T-shirts for $15 each as a fundraiser. The department currently has 20 volunteers including Thomas Barr, who has served for over 40 years.
