Residents of Precinct 4 in Delta County J.B. and Lori Collins approached the County with a request to close a partial length of County Road 4285. He presented aerial photos and stated he owned the land on both sides of the road with the exception of a portion owned by Butch Burns.

“The only traffic on this road is people dumping trash or who are not supposed to be there,” said J.B. Collins. “We would like to eventually build a house here.” The road also has additional access to the Pierce Cemetery.

Precinct 4 Commissioner Mark Brantley expressed the opposition to the proposal.

Delta County Judge Jason Murray said, “We must follow the proper channels to everything. We will need to study the statue, talk with other land owners but we want to be willing to help tax payers and property owners.”

He read aloud some of the statue for closure of a County Road and noted how it is a “long but clear” process. Delta County Attorney Jay Garrett was not present to consult on the legal matters of this item. After a lengthy discussion no action was taken.

Delta County Precinct 1 Commissioner Eric Lair received approval for the line item transfer of $6,419.00 from road, rock and oil to rental lease line to cover the equipment lease agreement on the seven months remaining.

Delta County Treasurer Bonnie Hobbs presented the financial reports for November and December 2016. With no discussion the reports were accepted 4-0. The continuing education training hours for Precinct 4 Commissioner Mark Brantley were also recorded into the minutes.

Attending the meeting were eight Cooper High School students observing how their local County government operates. Judge Murray asked the students if they had anything to add to the meeting. No response was given.

The minutes were approved and bills were paid prior to adjourning at 9:32 a.m.
