Dozens of responsible owners attend dog registration

LADONIA - Roughly 60 dogs were registered Saturday during a Responsible Pet Ownership Day event in downtown Ladonia.

Cause for Paws was on hand to provide low cost vaccines, microchips & heart worm testing. Additional booths for pet related venders and activities were also welcome to attend. Over 100 shots were administered.

A dedicated group of citizens have been working to better inform the community of the need to help control the constant influx of stray and abandoned dogs.

Shelter volunteer Glen Wolfe says it was a successful day, but a lot of work remains.

"Although it was  a great event, The Shelter  remains very  concerned about the  many dogs that did not show up  for the event or get registered. "

Wolfe added the shelter was able to pass out seven leashes and five collars to needy dog owners, as well as help cover the cost of some required shots for needy dogs. The shelter also provided four care packages with food and treats for needy dog owners.

Saturday’s event was open to residents in Ladonia and surrounding communities like Pecan Gap, Honey Grove, Bonham, Windom, Dodd City, Gober, Bailey, Commerce, Cooper, Wolfe City and Fairlie.
