Dress Code changes for Commerce ISD

By Kevin Jefferies

Commerce – Dress Code changes were the topic of lengthy discussion at the Commerce School Board meeting last night. A suggestion to prohibit any shirts with slogans or pictures larger than about 1 inch square was eventually tabled after the board could not come to a decision it felt comfortable with. Commerce High School Principal Trish King said that some shirts with inappropriate pictures or messages can often go unnoticed during the school day, making fair and equal enforcement of current code difficult. Several board members expressed concern over such a major change to dress code when only a few students abuse the rules. Measures prohibiting hooded jackets or shirts and long trench coats inside the school building were approved by the board.
