Driver Faces Two Counts of Manslaughter in Fatal Accident

The driver of the truck that struck Vivian and O.G. Brewer, of Cooper, on Aug. 13, 2015 turned himself in on Wednesday, Jan. 27, 2016 to face two counts of manslaughter. Vincent Wilcox, of Sulphur Springs, remains in the Delta County Jail on bonds set at $250,000 each.
Texas Department of Public Safety Trooper Dustin Hunter said they had been looking for the suspect for nearly two weeks on warrants.
“He was considered a flight risk. We believed he was hiding in Commerce,” said Trooper Dustin Hunter, noting Wilcox had not reported to work. At approximately 10:45 a.m. Wilcox willingly gave himself up to Trooper Hunter.
The AK Gillis dump truck driver was traveling north from Sulphur Springs on that morning in August when he collided with the Brewers, who were leaving Cooper on State Highway 19 near the South Sulphur River bridge near the Delta/Hopkins County line. As earlier reported it appeared to be head-on collision and on impact the vehicles caught fire while in the ditch on the west side of highway.
Vivian Brewer was killed on impact while her husband passed later in the hospital after being taken by Air Evac Lifeteam emergency helicopter from the scene. Wilcox was transported by ambulance to Hopkins County Memorial Hospital. He was given a drug test and released later that day from the hospital.
