Fireworks crackdown in Commerce

By Kevin Jefferies

Commerce – The City of Commerce will be cracking down on fireworks inside the city limits this year. Setting off fireworks is and has been illegal inside Commerce City limits, but enforcement has traditionally been lax in most cases, according to Commerce City Manager Bill Shipp.

SHIPP: We have not always in the past enforced that strictly. But this year, we are going to enforce it strictly, and we must enforce it strictly. Especially given the dry conditions that exist around the county.

Setting off fireworks is illegal in all cities in Hunt County and a ban has been placed on bottle rockets and missiles with fins in addition to an outdoor burn ban. Most area counties have also instituted such bans this summer due to continuing dry conditions.
