Five Youth Dead, Seven Injured in Interstate 20 Wreck

VAN - Five children have died after a sport utility vehicle carrying 12 veered out of control and overturned along Interstate 20 in Van Zandt County.

Update at 4:15 p.m. The Texas Department of Public Safety has identified the children who died as 13-year-old Rosvaelia Jaimes, 7-year-old Omar Jaimes, 6-year-old Saideth Acuna, 3-year-old Ulisa Acuna, and 2-year-old Judith Jaimes. DPS says they all came from Marshall.

The accident happened at around 2:15 p.m. Monday near the town of Van. Of the five killed, four were girls, ages 13, six, three and two. The other was a five-year-old boy. Five other children and two adults have been taken to hospitals in Tyler and Dallas.

The SUV was said to be in route from Marshall to a water park in Canton. DPS Trooper Jean Dark tells the Associated Press that no child safety seats were found and nine children were ejected from the vehicle as it rolled.
