Star Wars: The Force Awakens:

It's set 30 years after the events of Return of the Jedi. Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill, and Carrie Fisher return as their original roles, but this film mainly focuses on a new generation of characters. Alice thinks it will be as big as all the hype.

The Revenant:

This film follows the story of Hugh Glass, an explorer and fur trapper, who gets mauled by a bear and left for dead by his team. Leonardo DiCaprio plays Glass, and Alice says this role might finally earn him that Oscar.

Joy:

This is David O. Russell's third collaboration with Jennifer Lawrence and Bradley Cooper. It follows the story of a divorced mother of three building her business empire.

Concussion:

Will Smith stars in this biographical/thriller that's all about a doctor going up against the NFL over the issue of brain damage.

The Big Short:

This movie is based on a book of the same title by Michael Lewis. The cast is amazing, and it includes: Christian Bale, Steve Carell, Ryan Gosling, Brad Pitt, Melissa Leo, and Marisa Tomei.

In the Heart of the Sea:

This is based on the story that inspired Herman Melville's Moby Dick. Chris Hemsworth stars as Captain George Pollard, Jr.

Point Break:

This is a remake of the 1991 film of the same name starring Keanu Reeves and Patrick Swayze. This one stars Edgar Ramirez and Luke Bracey.

Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Road Chip:

They've made a fourth Alvin and the Chipmunks movie. This time they're on a road trip, and obviously they get into a ton of shenanigans.

Daddy's Home:

Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg battle it out as two men fighting for the attention of children. It's rated PG, so it's seemingly safe for the family.

Come back next week for more movies to check out. You can listen to Alice on air at 4:50 and 5:50 every Friday during All Things Considered, or online at ketr.org by searching Movie Picks with Alice Reese.
