A person is in critical condition in a Dallas hospital following a motel fire in Sulphur Springs.
Around 2 a.m. Saturday morning, the first alarm went out to local fire departments regarding, what witnesses say to be, heavy fire and smoke coming from the two story Best Western Trail Dust Inn and Suites in Sulphur Springs.
Many were rescued from the building as police, fire, and hotel staff went door to door evacuating guests. According to WFAA, some guests had to slip out of windows in order to avoid flames.
At least 29 rooms were damaged in the 4 alarm blaze that brought firefighters from Sulphur Springs, Hopkins County, Brinker and Cumby to the scene.
At least one person was critically injured and was taken to Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas from treatment.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but is thought to have started with an air conditioning unit.
The building, which has 107 units was completely full, because of local events happening this weekend, including high school graduations, the Dairy Festival, a hot air balloon rally, and many more.
The American Red Cross is on scene helping aid the guests and firefighters who were affected.
