GREENVILLE - A Saturday concert in Greenville aims to raise funds for the “Imagine No Malaria” campaign, designed to provide mosquito nets for children in Africa.
The Connections Band, a group of North Texas musicians and area pastors, will provide a live tribute to the music of Chicago and The Eagles. The group has been together for six years and has been traveling the nation providing benefit events.
Donations will be accepted.
Gene Wisdom is the pastor of the Wesley United Methodist Church in Greenville. He says the band has also preformed concerts to raise funds for hurricane and flood disaster victims. The “Imagine No Malaria” campaign got its roots from the United Nations. Wisdom says the idea is the keep the infection from starting in the lives and blood streams of young people.
“The goal is in the next ten years to create a whole cycle of young people without malaria and hopefully thereby reduce the recreation of it in children, ” Wisdom said.
Saturday’s event is open to the public and begins at 6:30 p.m. from Greenville’s Municipal Auditorium,2821 Washington Street.
