Greenville Equipping Citizens to Fight Crime

http://www.sylvanheights.org

Greenville residents will have an opportunity to spend an evening out this fall learning how to fight crime in their neighborhoods.

The city of Greenville observance of the National Night Out has been tentatively scheduled for October 2. Greenville Police Department Officer Chris McCaslin has been given the go-ahead to begin signing up neighborhoods which may be interested in hosting an activity that night.

The National Night Out is sponsored each year by the National Association of the Town Watch to encourage people in neighborhoods across the country to come together and get to know each other while meeting with law enforcement authorities and learning ways how to prevent crime, drug abuse and violence in their neighborhoods.

The city of Greenville did not conduct an August event this year, and has hosted the National Night Out in October once before, in 2007.
