State Senator Bob Hall (R-2)

is drumming up support for a Texas initiative to protect against electromagnetic pulse, or EMP, attacks.

Earlier this week, Hallrged Kaufman county officials to support the measure to protect the Texas electric grid from solar flares and manmade attacks. The aftereffects of an energy grid going down would be catastrophic, Hall said.

“Only air and water are more important to sustain life than electrical power," he said.

Securing the grid,he added, would add about 5 percent to the cost for consumers.
