Hunt County Reports 15th West Nile Case

GREENVILLE - But the rate at which officials are diagnosing the illness is slowing, with this latest case the first within the last 10 days.

The Hunt County Health Department says this is only the third case of West Nile in the county this month. The previous 12 were discovered in August.

Lamar and Titus counties remain the only Northeast Texas counties to have confirmed deaths from the virus.

Spraying locally has calmed down significantly since the illness reached its peak in late August/early September. The mosquito spraying schedule for the City of Commerce indicates they’ll finish up this Thursday. That will conclude a month-long initiative where spraying was administered each week. Prior to this month, it was done every other week. The City of Cooper is scheduled to spray again for mosquitoes next week.
