Hunt Regional Emergency Centers Seeing Increase In Flu Cases

Texas A&M Health Science Center

Kim Saenz, the director of the Hunt Regional Emergency Centers in Commerce and Quinlan, says they're seeing a rise in flu cases and also strep.  She recommends that everyone get the flu shot, even though reports say it is not very effective this year.  Kim says if you get the shot, and do get the flu, it will be a milder, shorter case.  Kim also discusses an article on alternatives to going to the emergency room, including going to urgent-care (or "minor-care") center.  She says it is much cheaper to go to urgent-care centers for sickness and minor injuries.

John Mark Dempsey is the host of the public interest program The Blacklands Café from KETR News. Dempsey is also the play-by-play announcer for Commerce Tigers Football on 88.9 FM and on ketr.org.
