Judge sets trial date in Commerce illegal dumping suit

COMMERCE - Trial has been scheduled for next year in the illegal dumping case filed by the City of Commerce against a New Orleans-based real estate firm.

The city claims Fountainbleau Management Services, along with eight other defendants, dumped thousands of pounds of asbestos-tainted debris in the local landfill, while burying even more on the complex property along Live Oak Street.

The companies named in the suit not only deny the allegations but claim the previous owners of the complex were the ones responsible and that the city is also partially at fault.

Trial is scheduled for June, 2012. The original suit was filed this past May.
