Jury selection begins today for a man charged with trying to run over two Commerce Police officers

By Kevin Jefferies

Greenville – A Hopkins county man accused of trying to run over two Commerce Police officers is set to go to trial this week. 52 year old Loyce Gassaway faces up to life in prison for two counts of aggravated assault against a public servant. The charges stem from an incident last spring when Gassaway was involved in a car chase out of Delta County, which ended on Lee Street in Commerce, when police were forced to fire shots to bring Gassaway's vehicle to a stop after Gassaway tried to run over the officers. Jury selection is set to begin today in the case.
