Ladonia Remains Without Municipal Water Service

Citizens in the southern Fannin County town of Ladonia continue to be without municipal water service, although it’s possible service could be restored some time this week.

Ladonia’s municipal water delivery system failed on Friday, when one of the city’s two pumps quit working. The other pump was already out of service. According to the Ladonia Chamber of Commerce, workers on Friday identified a broken pump in the well as the source of the problem.

The Ladonia Volunteer Fire Department as well as other local officials and volunteers have been cooperating to supply people with both potable (drinkable) and non-potable water since Friday.

Bottled water continues to be available at the Ladonia Fire Station, 203 Paris St., and at Ladonia City Hall, 100 Center Plaza. The North Hunt Special Utilities District and the Wolfe City Fire Department have set up a tanker truck in the town square with non-potable water available for anyone wanting it.

The local school district, Fannindel ISD, dismissed classes at noon on Monday and canceled Tuesday’s classes.

The Ladonia Chamber of Commerce said on its Facebook page that parts for a new pump are expected to arrive on Tuesday, though no timetable for completion of repairs was given. On Tuesday afternoon, city employees confimed that work crews were installing new equipment, but no estimate of completion time was given.
