Longtime Commerce community member passes away

By Kevin Jefferies

Commerce – A longtime fixture of the Commerce community passed away late Wednesday night. Sarah Sienty was a longtime member of the Commerce School board and worked at A&M-Commerce since 1975, most recently as Assistant Professor in Secondary and Higher Education. Former Commerce School Board President Mary Hendrix said Sienty will leave an impression.

HENDRIX: Sarah Sienty loved this University, and she loved the Commerce community. And whether it was preparing our future teachers or serving on the Commerce ISD Board of Trustees, she always focused on the best interests of the students. The contributions that she has made will leave a lasting impression on everyone that knew her.

A&M-Commerce President Dr. Keith McFarland admired Sienty's zest for life.

MCFARLAND: Sarah Sienty was certainly a person who had a zest for everything she did. Whether it was teaching in the classroom, or serving in the University community, or serving on the school board, she had a great sense of public service. We'll certainly miss her and all that she added to this campus as a faculty member.

Sienty also served in numerous other civic and religious organizations. Funeral services are scheduled for 11am tomorrow at the Episcopal Church of the Epiphany in Commerce. Memorials can be made to the Hunt/Rains chapter of the American Cancer Society, or to the Commerce Schools Educational Enrichment Foundation.
